ANDERSON BLASTS MARS BOSSES OVER ANIMAL CRUELTY

PAMELA ANDERSON has turned on her former bosses at confectionary giants Mars. Inc after learning they are supporting inhumane and lethal experiments on animals in violation of its own written policy. The famous animal lover, who helped advertise M+Ms for Mars in Australia last year (06), has teamed up with activists at People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to pen a letter the company president Paul S. Michaels, urging him to put an end to funding "cruel and pointless animal tests." According to PETA researchers, Mars has paid experimenters to conduct gruesome tests on mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits - even though these tests are not required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They claim a current Mars-funded experiment at the University of California, San Francisco, involves force-feeding rats chocolate ingredients by shoving plastic tubes down their throats. The experimenters then cut open the animals' legs and clamp their arteries shut. After the experiment, the animals are killed by bilateral thoracotomy - stab wounds to their chests. Anderson writes, "Please don't be a grinch. Until you promise to end all support for animal experiments done for your ingredients, I'll be encouraging everyone I know to choose other candy, like Hershey's, this holiday season."
