PEDRO ALMODOVAR is ready for a change of direction, and is keen to branch out into period dramas and even musicals. The Spanish VOLVER film-maker always insists on having music in his movies, and now feels it is time to go all out with a song-and-dance extravaganza. He says, "A period piece is very attractive to me. We have wonderful 19th-century novelists, and I've thought their work could make a costume drama, maybe Spanish or French. "And I've always been tempted to make a musical. In my films there's always someone who sings."
