ALMODOVAR WINS FILM RIGHTS TO POET ANA

Spanish director PEDRO ALMODOVAR has won the rights to turn the autobiography of communist poet MARCOS ANA into a Hollywood movie. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is planning to bring Ana's life story to the big screen, in a film that will document the 23 years he spent in prison during the Spanish dictatorship of Franciso Franco. In his book Tell Me What A Tree Looks Like, Ana describes how he found himself in jail in 1939 after fighting against the former leader's troops during the Spanish Civil War. His autobiography also tells how he managed to avoid two death sentences before he was released in 1961, aged 41. The movie will be a departure from Almodovar's sexual comedies - he is better known for his critically-acclaimed films All About My Mother, Talk To Her, and Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown.
