ALICE IN CHAINS HAVE 'KINSHIP' WITH GROHL
Rockers ALICE IN CHAINS have a special connection with DAVE GROHL because they have all experienced the tragic death of a bandmate.
Grohl's previous band, Nirvana, disbanded in 1994 after singer Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Seattle, Washington home. The rocker went on to form the Foo Fighters.
Grunge pioneers Alice In Chains suffered a similar loss when frontman Layne Staley died in 2002 after injecting himself with a mixture of cocaine and heroin.
Alice In Chains are now preparing for their first full U.K. tour since 1993 with new singer William DuVall.
And guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who formed the group with Staley, looks up to Grohl because he managed to move on after Cobain's death.
He says, "Dave's been through this situation with losing Kurt and his band (Nirvana), and it's really dear to his heart. We're good friends regardless, but he's been through exactly what we're going through. After a period of time of not ever wanting to do it again, he turned himself around and started a new band that's f**king killer, so we have a kind of kinship there."
