ALEX JAMES 'SNUBBED COLDPLAY'

Alex James has admitted he passed on signing COLDPLAY to his record label in the 1990s because he did not think they were anything special.

Chris Martin's band have gone on to be one of the biggest acts in the world, with hit albums such as A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD and VIVA LA VIDA.

However, the BLUR bassist said he was not particularly moved when he first saw the band perform live.

"I went to see Coldplay with Damien Hirst and Joe Strummer - my fellow record company executives - and we all thought they were ordinary and passed on them," he told the Sun.

"I think everyone did, except Parlophone, just like happened with The Beatles, and Blur."

Meanwhile, BLUR frontman Damon Albarn recently expressed concern about his band's forthcoming reunion shows, saying he hopes they can play together to the level they were formerly capable of.
