ALAGNA TO UNDERGO NOSE SURGERY
French tenor ROBERTO ALAGNA has been forced to cancel a Madrid opera appearance to undergo minor nose surgery.
The singer was due to perform in Il Trovatore but a planned operation on his septum coincides with the June (07) dates.
Ines Toston, a spokeswoman for Madrid opera house the Teatro Real, says, "Roberto Alagna is undergoing surgery between June 2-4 and after that he needs a recovery period of six weeks.
"It is a minor operation, it is not at all serious."
A message posted on Alagna's website is similarly reassuring. It reads, "Because of the various rumours that have been circulating on the internet and in the newspapers about Roberto Alagna, he would like to reassure his fans. He is in very good health but he has to cancel his engagement in Madrid in order to have a general checkup and rest for a few days."
The singer's three shows during the 7-29 June run were to have marked his first ever performances in Spain.
