ALAGNA THREATENS TO SUE OPERA BOSSES

LATEST: Tenor ROBERTO ALAGNA plans to sue the bosses of Milan's famous La Scala opera house if his offer to return - after he was booed offstage - is refused. The French opera star stormed offstage midway through his performance in VERDI's AIDA on Sunday night (10DEC06) after a section of the audience started to heckle and boo him. But now Alagna wishes to return to the FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI production, insisting, "I have not committed a crime, I've done nothing wrong." The tenor claims La Scala bosses are treating him "like a monster" following his tantrum, which left producers scrambling to find a replacement to finish the opera in Alagna's absence. Organisers later apologised to the public. Alagna announced yesterday (11DEC06) he's ready to return to the show, but claims the opera house had turned him down for breach of contract. In a statement, he says, "They sent me a letter saying that the contract is annulled... So I went to my lawyer today and we are going to sue them."
