AKON is to become a soccer icon - the R&B singer has been asked to direct the music for the upcoming 2010 World Cup.
The Senegalese star will record a theme song for the event, due to take place in South Africa next June (10), and oversee performances throughout the tournament.
And the Smack That hitmaker is delighted with his new job: "I've been hired as musical director for the World Cup. I will be overseeing the World Cup anthem and music at the ceremonies and I'm off to South Africa this week for meetings. I love soccer, so it's a great honour."
