Hip hop star AKON launched a career in music because no one would hire him after he was released from prison in 2004. The Locked up rapper found himself unemployable after serving time for theft. He explains, "I had no intention of ever being a recording artist. After I got out of prison, I had no occupation. Nobody would hire me. "But I had a talent and that kind of opened up the door for me to say, 'I've got this talent and I need to take it and use it as a blessing; it's here for a reason.'"
