ADAM YAUCH HAS CANCER

Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch has been diagnosed with a ''very treatable'' cancerous tumour in his salivary gland and lymph node and will undergo surgery as early as next week.

Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 44-year-old hip-hop star - also known as 'MCA' - has revealed he has been diagnosed with a "very treatable" cancerous tumour in his salivary gland and a lymph node.

He said: "I have some pretty heavy news, I guess. They did tests and I actually have a form of cancer in the gland.

"It's a little bit of a set back... it's a pain in the a*s but this is something that is very treatable in most cases."

As a result, the 'Intergalactic' hitmakers have been forced to cancel their upcoming tour dates and have postponed the planned September release of their forthcoming LP 'Hot Sauce Committee Part 1'.

In a video message on the band's website, Adam said: "About two months ago I started feeling a little lump in my throat. I started to think I should talk to my doctor, and he sent me to a specialist.

"The good news is it's only localised in this one area, and not in a place that affects my voice. "

Adam - who looked upbeat and laughed with his bandmate Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz during the footage - went on to say he would undergo surgery to remove the tumour as early as next week, before embarking on a form of radiation treatment.

He added: "The doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later."
