2 FAST 2 FURIOUS ASSISTANT DIRECTOR SETTLES RACE DISCRIMINATION SUIT

An African-American assistant director fired from the set of 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS has finally reached a settlement with the Hollywood studio he accused of racial discrimination. Universal Pictures sacked Frank Davis in October 2002, citing incompetence. He subsequently joined forces with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), maintaining his civil rights had been violated, even though the director who dismissed him was of the same ethnicity. Davis was seeking damages estimated at $7 million (GBP3.5 million) while the EEOC was demanding back pay and punitive damages as well as court-enforced monitoring, oversight of the studio's hiring and firing practices and anti-discrimination sensitivity training. Davis reportedly settled in a Los Angeles court yesterday (13Jun07) although the EEOC has vowed to continue with its action.
