1,500 MILES FOR THE PROCLAIMERS

Scottish duo the Proclaimers are at number one in the UK singles chart for the third consecutive week with (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles.

The charity single – re-released for Comic Relief almost 20 years after first going on sale – also features the talents of Peter Kay and Matt Lucas in the guise of comic creations Brian Potter and Andy Pipkin.

Just behind Charlie and Craig Reid are Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne and The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani featuring Akon; both unchanged from last week.

The Fray and Alex Gaudino complete the top five, with the former's How to Save a Life swapping places with Destination Calabria.

If the singles chart is static, it's all change in its albums equivalent, with Kings of Leon and Maximo Park gatecrashing the top two with Because of the Times and Our Earthly Pleasures respectively.

It is the first time the Tennessee fourpiece have scored a number one album, while second place is also a best-ever placing for Newcastle's finest Maximo Park.

Take That's Beautiful World and Everytime we Touch by Cascada are at three and four, with The Best of the Proclaimers rounding off the top five albums. Is there no stopping the Reid twins?
