AMY WINEHOUSE's father Mitch has revealed that his daughter's heart-wrenching songs may draw on the sadness she felt due to his extramarital affair.

Speaking on a BBC programme, ONE LIFE: ROCK STAR PARENTS, Mitch admitted that he conducted a long-standing affair and ultimately left Amy's mother for his new partner when the songstress was ten-years-old.

"I should have left earlier, I should have left sooner. There was not really a negative response from Amy (when I left), but she definitely became a lot more independent," he stated.

"I thought Amy was over it pretty quickly - in fact it felt at the time Amy felt no effect at all. Maybe she could not articulate it in words, but she certainly did it with music."

Speaking about his offspring's well-documented battle with drink and drugs, Mitch said that it was "easy" to blame himself but added that he will never know if there anything he could have done to prevent it.

This news follows the announcement that Amy's second album BACK TO BLACK has entered that UK's top ten best-selling albums of the 21st century list – knocking out NORAH JONES' COME AWAY WITH ME.

In total the Grammy-award-winning album has sold 2,467,575 copies since its release in October 2006.
