AMY WINEHOUSE - WINEHOUSE DIVORCE WILL HAVE TO WAIT

LATEST: Rumoured divorce proceedings that could end troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE's marriage will have to wait until May (08) at the earliest - because splits can't become official until a couple has been wed a year under British law. Even though Winehouse married Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami, Florida, the couple is still bound by marital laws in their native Britain. And that means incarcerated Fielder-Civil's divorce plans, reported by Winehouse's father Mitch, will have to wait. The singer's concerned dad tells British magazine Grazia, "Blake threatened to issue divorce proceedings when they were having a row... He has said things like, 'I want a divorce.'" But a leading marital law expert in London has revealed Fielder-Civil can't end his eight-month marriage just like that. Alison Green tells America's People magazine, "Under English law no divorce proceedings could be commenced until a year has passed since the date of the marriage." A friend of the couple insists the divorce threat won't amount to much: "I'm sure he did (say that) - but that doesn't mean he's going to do it. That's the way they row. It's very intense." Winehouse's husband is currently in jail after allegedly trying to manipulate a witness in an assault trial.
