DES LYNAM - VORDERMAN TO QUIT COUNTDOWN
Carol Vorderman has announced she will quit Countdown after more than a quarter of a century presenting the Channel Four quiz show.
The programme has been a staple of the channel's schedule since its launch in 1982, with Vorderman present throughout its run of more than 4,500 editions.
However, after it was revealed that current host Des O'Connor would be leaving Countdown Vorderman has also said now is a good time for her to step down as well.
It is thought that in announcing her decision to the channel's bosses, the 47-year-old cited the frequent changes of anchor recently - which saw Des Lynam and then O'Connor stepping into the shoes of the late Richard Whiteley.
Kevin Lygo, Channel Four's director of television and content, said: "We are extremely sorry to see Carol leave.
"She was the first woman on Channel Four and has made an enormous contribution to the success of Countdown over the last twenty five years.
"We hope to work with her again on other projects."
The channel said that replacements for both Vorderman and O'Connor "will be announced in due course".
Bosses have also claimed they are not concerned for the future of the programme format, despite the recent upheaval.
