VILLAGE PEOPLE - VILLAGE PEOPLE STAR STILL AMAZED BY THE POWER OF YMCA

The popularity of VILLAGE PEOPLE star RANDY JONES' biggest hit still amazes him - politicians and top dignitaries know all the words and actions to gay anthem YMCA.
The singer, who was the Village People's COWBOY, admits he still gets a thrill when he's invited to engagements and watches the most important people in America saluting the smash hit.
He says, "About once or twice a year I get invited to a Yankees (baseball) home game and this year I was invited to sit in the mayor's box with 57,000 people.
"In the box was MAYOR (MICHAEL) BLOOMBERG and the former Mayor RUDY GIULIANI... At the seventh inning stretch they play YMCA and when it comes to the chorus the cameras turn around on us and I look up at the JumboTron screen and I see Bloomberg, Giuliani and 57,000 other people forming the letters of YMCA like it's second nature."
But that magical moment wasn't as surreal as the night Jones performed the song at The White House after he was invited to US President GEORGE W BUSH's inaugural ball.
He adds, "I got on stage and dedicated my performance to the office of the president of the United States and to the man that I've been married to for 23 years.
"There are 3,000 Republicans who paid $2,500-a-piece for their seats... and I went into YMCA. By the time I got to the chorus 3,000 people in ball gowns and tuxedos, including President Bush, were standing in front of me doing the letters YMCA."
