Tributes have been paid to the singer-guitarist Bo Diddley who died at the age of 79 yesterday.

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger described Diddley as an "enormous force in music" and a "wonderful, original musician".

US blues legend BB King also claimed the rock 'n' roll pioneer's legacy would "live on forever".

Diddley died of heart failure in Florida on Monday. He was well known for his homemade square guitar, dark glasses and black hat.

Franz Ferdinand lead singer Alex Kapranos told NME Diddley "totally revolutionised" the way the guitar was played "with that loose sexy rhythm".

The famous guitarist rose to fame in the 1950s when he topped the R&B charts with Bo Diddley and had further hits with Who Do You Love, Mona and Before You Accuse Me.
