British rockers THE EDITORS hope they don't win the Mercury Music Prize, because they regard it as a jinx. The band can only think of one act who has benefited from winning the prestigious annual prize - and they aren't ready to peak yet. Frontman TOM SMITH says, "Apart from FRANZ FERDINAND, no one who's won it has gone on to make better or more successful records." Mercury Prize nominees were announced last month (JUL06). The Editors will compete with ARCTIC MONKEYS, ISOBEL CAMPBELL and MARK LANEGAN, GUILLEMOTS, RICHARD HAWLEY, HOT CHIP, MUSE, ZOE RAHMAN, LOU RHODES, SCRITTI POLITTI, SWAY and THOM YORKE for the GBP20,000 ($36,000) prize.
