THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND SUE LABEL FOR $10 MILLION

American rockers THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND have launched a $10 million (GBP5 million) lawsuit against a record label over unpaid royalties.
The band is seeking payment from Universal Music Group (UMG) over royalties from compact disc sales and digital download services, including Apple's iTunes.
The suit seeks payments from the sale of the band's songs recorded for their first label, Capricorn Records, between 1969 and 1980.
Band members Greg Allman, Jai Johanny 'Jaimoe' Johanson, Butch Trucks and DICkey Betts are named as plaintiffs in the legal action.
The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court in New York, claims UMG "refuses to pay plaintiffs at the correct royalty rate for its digital exploitation of the Capricorn Masters."
A spokesperson for UMG Recordings was unable to comment.
