Former STAR TREK actor GEORGE TAKEI is "beyond delighted" to have obtained a marriage license - becoming one of the first homosexuals to pick up the historic document in California on Tuesday (17Jun08).
The star announced his plans to wed longtime partner Brad Altman the day after new legislation overturned a ban on same-sex marriages in the state last month (15May08).
Takei received his license from the City of West Hollywood on Tuesday morning, when the gay marriage ban was officially lifted.
And he is overjoyed to have finally been granted equal marriage rights to everyone else.
He tells People.com, "We are first and foremost beyond delighted! It's a landmark day.
"I started singing One Singular Sensation (after getting the license). (Brad) said, 'I love you' and I looked at him and said, 'I love you.'"
The couple plan to wed on 14 September (08).
