Take That have sealed their impressive comeback with four nominations for this year's Brit awards, it has been announced.

The reformed 'man-band' hold the joint first place for the most number of nominations with solo artists Leona Lewis and Mika.

Take That are nominated for the prestigious British group award along with Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors and Girls Aloud.

They have also been shortlisted to receive the British album gong for Beautiful World; British live act; and best British single for Shine.

Leona Lewis and Mika take on Take That for best British album, also competing against Arctic Monkeys (Favourite Worst Nightmare) and Mark Ronson (Version).

"Creatively, British music is in a rich vein of form as reflected in these nominations," said BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor.

"Because of the outstanding talent in each category, I think people will be hard-pressed to pick who will win a Brit on the night.

Arcade Fire, Eagles, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leona The White Stripes have been nominated for best international group.

This year's outstanding contribution award is being presented to Sir Paul McCartney, who the Brit awards say has achieved more in his 65 years than any other musical artist.

This year's awards ceremony will take place on February 20th at London's Earls Court.
