SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE ARCHITECT DIES
The genius behind the design of the iconic Sydney Opera House has died at the age of 90.
Danish architect Joern Utzon passed away on Saturday (29Nov08) after suffering a fatal heart attack in his sleep at his home in Denmark, his son Kim has confirmed.
Kim adds, "He had not been doing well since Thursday (27Nov08) after undergoing a series of operations recently."
Utzon came up with the idea for one of Australia's top tourist attractions in 1957, but he quit the job in 1966 in a feud over costs and design. The building was finished in 1973.
He is survived by his wife Lis, their architect sons Jan and Kim, daughter Lin and several grandchildren.
