PINK FLOYD legend Syd Barrett "never wanted fame" and consciously withdrew from the music industry, according to his sister Rosemary.

Barrett became a cult figure after leaving PINK FLOYD to live as a recluse in Cambridge, but passed away in 2006 from pancreatic cancer.

"People ask me why Syd withdrew and I think it was a combination of too much LSD and a very eccentric creative brain," Rosemary is quoted as saying in the NME.

"If you're very tired and put a load of acid into the mix you've got chaos haven't you? It was all very nasty but it was inevitable. When you put those three factors together you are going to have an explosion aren't you?"

She added that he immediately distanced himself from the band as son as he moved to Cambridge in 1981.

Cambridge is to host a tribute exhibition to Barrett from October 22nd to November 1st, which will feature paintings and photographs.
