Rock 'n' roll wildman JERRY LEE LEWIS almost died at the height of his success - when he hit a horse while speeding through Tennessee. The GREAT BALLS OF FIRE hitmaker recalls he was hurtling through the countryside with pal DOC STONE when a stray mare with a death wish bolted towards their car. Lewis tells Blender magazine, "We was doing about 80 miles an hour and when it hit, that horse's head was coming right straight at me. "I just fell right down in Doc's lap. The horse ended up on top of the car and was killed. I never could find out who the horse belonged to. That was 1958."
