STONES FINALLY ROCK MILAN
THE ROLLING STONES finally rocked Milan, Italy, last night (11JUL06) after being forced to postpone their European tour when guitarist KEITH RICHARDS suffered severe head injuries in April (06). The WILD HORSES star was flown to hospital in New Zealand in April (06) after falling out of a tree while on holiday in Fiji. He subsequently underwent skull surgery to drain fluid from his brain. The show at Milan's famous San Siro stadium came more than a month late, but the Stones delighted fans with a barnstorming two-hour set and congratulations of the country's triumph in the FIFA World Cup on Sunday (09JUL06). Frontman SIR MICK JAGGER cracked a joke about French captain ZINEDINE ZIDANE's mysterious headbutt attack on Italian defender MARCO MATERAZZI as the final edged towards a penalty shootout. He quipped, "Materazzi and Richards have something in common tonight - they both recently had head-related problems." At the end of the gig, World Cup heroes Materazzi and ALESSANDRO DEL PIERO joined the veteran rockers on stage.

I am thrilled that Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones are so supportive of
Italy and Italy's World Cup victory. How classy of the Stones to invite Del
Piero (who I believe is friends with Noel Gallagher) and Matterrazzi
onstage......
What a contrast from Julian Casablancas and The Strokes who failed to even
acknowledge Italy's World Cup win at a concert in Torino yesterday.
Furthermore, Julian not only was pulling for the French football team, he
repeatedly said "allez les bleus, allez les bleus" at a Strokes concert in
Paris, he allegedly made disparaging remarks about Italians.
First, I do not know why Julian would root for France since he is half Spanish
and half Danish. Second, why would he alienate Italians and Italian-American
s??? I am Italian-American and I am furious. Third, it was beyond tactless for
Julian not to congratulate Italy on its fabulous win when the Strokes played in
Torino last night.
For years, I was a Strokes fan but no more. I cannot listen to or support a
band whose lead singer is bigoted towards Italians.
I am also stunned and heart-broken.
