An Australian court has charged the actor Sylvester Stallone with the import of a banned growth hormone.

The 60-year-old actor, who returned to the big scene as Rocky Balboa this year, was allegedly found to have 48 vials of the restricted product in the country with him after checks on his luggage when going through customs last month and when police later raided his hotel room where he stayed while promoting the new boxing movie.

If convicted of the offence, the Cliffhanger star could face up to five years imprisoned and a fine of up to A$110,000 (£44,714).

Stallone was not in court to hear the charge against him but was believed to be in Thailand where he is filming the fourth Rambo film, 25 years since the first movie, First Blood, was released.

The performance hormone is a restricted drug in the country and a special license is required in order to import it.

Stallone's plea will be entered into court on 24th April. Until then the case will be adjourned.

Son of astrologer and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Jackie Stallone, the actor, director and writer has been married three times and has five children.
