MARVIN GAYE - SPRINGFIELD AND WEISS ATTACKED GAYE WITH PLATES

Former Shangri-Las singer MARY WEISS first met MARVIN GAYE during a crockery fight with DUSTY SPRINGFIELD.
The sixties star says she often took part in food and plate throwing fights with her pal Springfield to "let off steam".
And the pair narrowly missed legendary soul singer Gaye with a flying plate during a fight at the Brooklyn Fox Theatre, New York.
The Leader Of The Pack singer says, "She really liked to throw stuff. Dusty taught me how to throw crockery, too. She would get frustrated so she would go out and buy a couple of hundred bucks' worth of cheap crockery.
"We would let off a lot of steam that way. That was how I met Marvin Gaye. He was trying to get out of his dressing room. He stuck his head out and all these plates went flying past his head."

Mary here. Two stories are a little mixed up. I was at a party at Dusty's
apartment in London when a food fight broke out (I hid under a desk).
There were no crockery fights. I once joined Dusty at a crockery throwing
(not fight) in the hall of the Brooklyn Fox theater. Marvin just picked the
wrong time to come out of his dressing room, as a plate wizzed by his head. We
weren't aiming at him, just at the corridor wall.
LUV
Mary
