SOPHIE'S CHOICE AUTHOR STYRON DIES
SOPHIE'S CHOICE author WILLIAM STYRON has died at the age of 81. The Pulitzer Prize winner lost his battle with pneumonia in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts yesterday (01NOV06). Styron wrote a number of novels, but is most remembered for the Holocaust tale, the movie version of which earned MERYL STREEP an Academy Award; and book THE CONFESSIONS OF NAT TURNER, which won him the acclaimed Pulitzer Prize in 1968. In 1993 Styron was awarded the American National Medal of the Arts by the National Endowment of the Arts in Washington DC.
