SNOOP DOGG - SNOOP GETS MTV AWARDS GIG

US rap star Snoop Dogg has been named as this year's host for the MTV Europe Music Awards.

MTV revealed today that the 36-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, will MC the event in Munich, Germany, this autumn.

The ceremony will take place at the city's OlympiaHalle on November 1st, with a number of big acts already lined up to perform.

Speaking to MTV News, the artist gave his reaction in true LA rapper style.

"I've called up the homeys from east to west and I guarantee it's gonna be off tha chain, ya dig," he said.

The Foo Fighters, who recently headlined Britain's V Festival, and Mika have been confirmed among the event's acts.

Winners will be decided from lists of nominees voted for by MTV viewers.

A new category, New Sounds of Europe, has also been introduced to determine what MTV calls "the ultimate breakthrough act from the whole continent this year".

Last year's ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark, saw Snoop among the performers while Justin Timberlake hosted the event.

Depeche Mode were named best group, Gnarls Barkley's Crazy took the top song title and Killers picked up best rock group.
