CARLY SIMON refuses to dwell on the cancer battle that cost her her a breast a decade ago, insisting it had served its use.
The philosophical singer/songwriter won her cancer fight but lost her left breast - and now claims she was destined to give it up.
Simon underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer in October 1997.
She tells USA Today newspaper, "That was a metaphor for a couple of things. One is that I breast-fed (son) Ben for three-and-a-half years, so I gave away all my milk.
"There was no need for that (breast) anymore."
Simon also maintains that past heartbreaks weakened that area of her body.
