SILVERCHAIR TO GET AUSTRALIAN LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Rock group SILVERCHAIR are delighted to be the recipients of a lifetime achievement award at this weekend's (29Apr07) Australian MTV Video Music Awards, but they are baffled as to why.
This Sunday's ceremony will be the first time the music channel will be handing out the Australian Video Vanguard Award - the equivalent of an outstanding contribution to music gong - in the event's three year history. Similar awards have been handed to artists like Madonna, Michael Jackson and the Red Hot Chili Pepper's in the American version of the awards show.
However, the band - who have only released five albums to date - don't think they deserve the accolade because they never really enjoyed the art of making music videos.
Bassist Chris Joannou says, "We actually always used to hate making videos. So they should really be giving this award to all those poor directors we've worked with over the years.
"But MTV have offered the gong to us for some reason so, of course, we are happy to step in now and take all the credit for all their hard work."
The awards will be presented by Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas and punk group Good Charlotte in Sydney this Sunday.
