HAIRSPRAY - SHANKMAN UNSURE ABOUT WICKED MOVIE

HAIRSPRAY director ADAM SHANKMAN has ruled himself out of bringing the musical sequel to THE WIZARD OF OZ to the big screen - because he's not convinced it will translate well from the stage. The filmmaker is delighted the musical Hairspray has wowed the critics and would love to make another movie based on a Broadway hit, but is unsure what to do next. However, he's ruled out working on popular musical Wicked, which tells the origin of the Wicked Witch Of The East and Wicked Witch Of West, as he is unsure whether it will make a good movie. He says, "I'm always being asked about Wicked, but I'm uncertain people will fall in love with an actor who is green. There are big emotional moments and she is green. "It's one thing having an overweight girl in Hairspray - you see overweight people all the time- but you never see green women crying."
