TOM SELLECK considered quitting the movie business after watching film fans crush a dog to death during a stampede at a movie premiere in Paris. The star was promoting 1983 film High Road To China in the French capital, when 20,000 fans of the Magnum, P.I. star surged towards him - and police failed to hold them back. Selleck says, "In the madness, a dog was killed - trampled to death - and it really disturbed me. I wasn't scarred from it, but it informed me so much about where this busness could go. "I was so disturbed I remember saying to my agent, 'If this is what it's like, I've got to find another line of work. It's mad.' "It affected my choices and made me more guarded."
