JOHN PEEL - SECOND PEEL DAY ANNOUNCED

The second John Peel Day has been announced by the late British broadcaster's former employer BBC Radio 1, with a bevy of top bands scheduled to come together for the memorial extravaganza. The event will kick off on 12 October (06), the second anniversary of the DJ's final broadcast on the much-loved pop station. And fans and bands alike are being called upon to arrange music nights and concerts in honour of JOHN PEEL's reputation for celebrating new music. Peel's widow SHEILA RAVENSCROFT says, "I hope many bands and venues will want to celebrate John's anniversary. There is so much good new music around - everyone should have a fantastic night." John Peel died of a heart attack in October 2004. He was 65.
