AC DC - SCOTT FANS RAISE TWICE AS MUCH FOR STATUE
AC DC fans have stunned the organisers of a charity concert held to raise funds for a statue tribute to late singer BON SCOTT by raising $150,000 (GBP77,000) more than expected.
The Australian gig, featuring performances by rock acts ROSE TATTOO and SCREAMING JETS, was held to fund a $100,000 (GBP51,300) bronze statue of Scott.
But more than 10,000 music fans showed up at the Claremont Showground last month (24FEB07) and helped organisers raise $250,000 (GBP128,200).
The concert ended with a stirring performance from the CALEDONIAN SOCIETY SCOT PIPEBAND - the group Scott once played with when he was a teenager.
With the cash in place, the statue tribute will be erected next year (08) at a yet-to-be-decided venue in Perth, Western Australia.
Meanwhile, the extra cash raised will be donated to Support Act Ltd., which aids sick musicians.
