ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER - SCHWARZENEGGER STEERS CLEAR OF PAIN MEDICATION AT GLOBES

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER lived up to his tough guy tag when he stepped up to present the Best Film honour at last night's (15JAN07) Golden Globe Awards - he was battling crippling pain. The California Governor fractured his femur in a pre-Christmas (06) skiing accident and has been hobbling around on crutches ever since. But, even after undergoing extensive surgery to fix his shattered leg, the TERMINATOR star has refused heavy doses of painkillers because he wants to remain coherent and clear-headed. Before taking to the Beverly Hilton stage last night, Schwarzenegger said, "You only want to take a little bit ofmedication because otherwise you maybe forget what you want to say and start slurring because medication has an effect. The action man spent Christmas (06) in hospital, where surgeons used cables and screws to repair his broken leg leg. Schwarzenegger was told to rest up by doctors, but made his first public appearance since the accident on 5 January (07), when he was inaugurated as California Governor for a second term.
