ROLE MODELS SET EXAMPLE FOR UK BOX OFFICE RIVALS

New comedy Role Models has topped the UK box office chart after its first weekend on release.

The Universal film, starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott, took £2.3 million in three days to claim the top spot ahead of Golden Globe winner Slumdog Millionaire.

Role Models sees Rudd and Scott as energy drink salesmen who are forced into a community service programme with lonely youngsters after being arrested over a caffeine-fuelled bender.

Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, which won the best drama, best director, best writer and best composer prizes at Sunday's Golden Globe awards, debuted in second with £1.8 million in its opening weekend.

Romantic comedy Bride Wars, starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, opened in third while wartime drama Defiance, featuring Daniel Craig and Jamie Bell as Jewish brothers escaping from Nazi-occupied Poland, entered the UK charts at number four.

Road movie Sex Drive was the other new entry in this week's chart, debuting at number 11.
