LATEST: BLACK SABBATH guitarist TONY IOMMI and JETHRO TULL frontman IAN ANDERSON have helped to save British radio station Planet Rock from closure.
The digital station faced being shut down last month (May08) unless parent company Gcap media found a suitable buyer.
Queen guitarist Brian May had expressed interest in purchasing the beleaguered station, but it was the group of music legends headed by Iommi and Anderson who were successful in the takeover bid.
The group, also including Irish session guitarist Gary Moore, joined rock fan Malcolm Bluemel in coming forward to save the station.
And Anderson insists they will be able to revive Planet Rock.
He says, "Onwards and upwards - from the threat of extinction to a fantastic future, with a little help from its friends.
"I am personally delighted that the show goes on, as it must, since our heritage of great British rock music is too important to see slip away from national radio."
