HAL - ROCK 'N' ROLL STAR KALIN DIES
Veteran rock 'n' roll star HERBIE KALIN, one half of American duo THE KALIN TWINS, has died of a heart attack. He was 72. New York-born Kalin, who passed away on 22 July (06), formed the band with his brother HAL, who died in a road accident last year (05). The pair rocketed to fame with global million-seller WHEN in 1958, and they were touted by record giant Decca as a pair of handsome ELVIS PRESLEY look/soundalikes. In later years, the Kalin Twins released a version of A PICTURE OF YOU in the US, and a successful cover of the EVERLY BROTHERS' ALL I HAVE TO DO IS DREAM. 1980 saw the pair release a bouncy disco version of When. They also remained a popular cabaret act until Hal's death. Herbie is survived by two sons and two daughters from his first marriage. His second wife CHARLOTTE also survives him.
