VANESSA REDGRAVE - REDGRAVE: 'AFFAIRS HAVEN'T AFFECTED MY RELATIONSHIP'

VANESSA REDGRAVE is amazed her union with partner FRANCO NERO has lasted more than 40 years - because she has had extracurricular flings with other men.
The couple, who have a 38-year-old son, Carlo, have never legally tied the knot and instead chose to cement their commitment on New Year's Eve 2006 with an "unofficial" ceremony.
But Redgrave, 71, admits there is a further reason her relationship with the Italian actor is unconventional - she has had a "few affairs on the side".
She says, "Franco said when somebody asked him: 'We've been married for 42 years.' So that's his version and I'm sticking to it.
"Franco's never lived in the same house. Never, never, never. He's an Italian; Italian's like to live in Italy and I couldn't transfer my life to Italy."
