RUSH HOUR - RATNER SKIPPED SCHOOL TO WATCH SCARFACE FILMING

RUSH HOUR filmmaker BRETT RATNER knew he was destined to become a movie director when he skipped school to watch how AL PACINO worked on the set of SCARFACE. The 38-year-old was a teenager when director Brian De Palma's 1983 gangster classic was shooting in his native Miami, Florida. And the young Ratner decided his real education was to be found not in a classroom, but through watching De Palma instruct Pacino on set. He tells industry newspaper Daily Variety, "I was on the set of Scarface - I skipped school to go to the set every day and watch them shoot - and I saw Brian De Palma telling Al Pacino what to do, and Al Pacino doing what the director told him to do."
