JOHN CARGHER, the host of Australian broadcast network ABC's longest-running radio show, has died. He was 89.
He passed away at his home in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday (01May08) just days after retiring from his legendary radio show Singers Of Renown last week (ends25Apr08).
Cargher started working on the programme in 1966, and it became the longest-running show to be hosted continuously by the same presenter in Australia.
The presenter recorded his final show last week after making the decision to retire from broadcasting.
He managed several music stores and was also a published author. He is survived by his wife Robyn and daughter Penelope.
