ALOUD - PROCLAIMERS CLIMB EXTRA MILE TO NUMBER ONE

Comic Relief continued to prove itself a strong force in the singles chart this week as the Proclaimers – with a little help from a couple of comedic friends – climbed to number one.

Brian Potter and Andy Pipkin, better known as Peter Kay and Matt Lucas, helped the Proclaimers' (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles up two places to number one in the week after the song was played ad nauseam on Comic Relief night.

Meanwhile the official Comic Relief single, the version of Walk This Way covered by Sugababes and Girls Aloud, slipped off the top spot to number two.

Avril Lavigne appeared in the top ten with Girlfriend, in at number three, while The Sweet Escape maintained its long-standing top five status at number four.

In the album chart X Factor runner-up Ray Quinn's week-long spell at number one came to an end as veterans Take That retook the chart's summit.

The Manchester comeback kings' new album, Beautiful World, was back up to number one in its 17th week on the chart while the Kaiser Chiefs' Yours Truly Angry Mob climbed a place to number three.

Quinn's Doing It My Way slipped to number two while the highest new entry was from Enter Shikari's Take To The Skies; fellow X Factor contestant Ben Mills' effort slipped from last week's number three to 14th.
