ELVIS PRESLEY was honoured with a Mississippi Blues Trail marker at his birthplace in Tupelo on Tuesday (08Jan08), on what would have been his 73rd birthday. The ceremony paid tribute to the contribution Presley, who was born in Tupelo on 8 January 1935, made to Mississippi and America's blues heritage. State Governor Haley Barbour says, "By all accounts, Elvis Presley was the single greatest influence on modern-day rock 'n' roll in America, and much of his musical inspiration drew on the Mississippi blues." Mississippi Blues Trail markers are placed at sites representing the growth of the blues throughout the state.
