SYDNEY POLLACK - POLLACK SLAMS CINEMAGOERS

Oscar winner SYDNEY POLLACK has slammed cinemagoers - insisting today's audiences are desperate for instant on-screen gratification and don't appreciate complex plots. The producer and director of Out of Africa believes that audiences no longer have the patience for slowly developing story lines - but admits he is powerless to stop the quick-fix movie habit. He says, "Beginnings and endings are not interesting, audiences want the high point, which means you've got to get to it and get to it now - get the gun out fast, the clothes off quick." "There isn't much patience with a slow developing story line (anymore), (but) I try not to get depressed about stuff I can't do anything about."
