BRAD PITT - PITT/ANISTON JEWELLER ROBBED ON OSCAR NIGHT

The top Italian jeweller who crafted BRAD PITT and JENNIFER ANISTON's wedding rings was robbed on Oscar night (24Feb08). As stars like Oscar winner Tilda Swinton showed off borrowed Damiani gems on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, the Italian jeweller's Milan showroom was hit by thieves. In an elaborate heist, the robbers, wearing fake police uniforms, escaped with more than $20 million (GBP10 million) in necklaces, rings and precious stones. As part of the heist, Damiani staff members were tied up. Italian police are investigating a possible inside job because no part of the robbery was caught on video surveillance cameras, and no alarms sounded as the thieves went to work on steaing the gems. The owners of the store were not in Italy at the time of the heist; they were in Los Angeles for the Oscars.
