Legendary PINK FLOYD producer NORMAN SMITH has died. He was 85. Smith, who was also an engineer on every The Beatles recording session between 1962 and 1965, passed away on 3 March (08). He is best known for his work producing three of Pink Floyd's first four studio albums, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, A Saucerful Of Secrets and Ummagumma. Born in London on 22 February, 1923, Smith started working for record label EMI in 1959 and went on to take charge of The Beatles' first Abbey Road recording session in June 1962. Smith also released his own music under the name Hurricane Smith - in 1971 he had a U.K. hit single with Don't Let It Die, before scoring a trans-Atlantic smash with Oh Babe, What Would You Say? the following year (72).
