LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS - PHILIPS: 'I WANT TO STAR IN THE BREAKFAST CLUB REMAKE'

Hollywood actor LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS wants to star in a remake of cult 1980s movie THE BREAKFAST CLUB. The star - who is of Spanish, Filipino, Chinese and American Indian origin - is desperate to take the role of the principal to bring an ethnic twist to the new version. Phillips tells London radio station Heart FM, "I want to play the principal. There was nobody ethnic in The Breakfast Club - even though Emilio has a Spanish name." But the 45-year-old believes a Breakfast Club remake is a risky move, unless the script is brought up to date. He says, "Do I think it's a good idea? I don't know. The first one was so brilliant I think they would really have to put a contemporary twist on it and make it a little more relevant to today's youth. "All of the JOHN HUGHES films really spoke to the kids so I think you'd have to really update it and examine what modern day teenagers are going through."
