PEARL JAM DONATES TO ECO GROUPS

PEARL JAM have promised to donate $100,000 (GBP55,500) to environmental groups in an effort to offset the band's carbon emissions. A statement from the band reads, "Our Carbon Portfolio Strategy is the newest component of our ongoing efforts to advance clean renewable energy and carbon mitigation." Guitarist STONE GOSSARD said the group has been tracking its carbon emissions from tour vehicles, concert venues and hotels to estimate their contribution to global warming. He says, "It's a considerable amount. We emitted about 5,000 tons of carbon on our last tour." A total of nine US-based groups will benefit from the donation.
