Veteran country star WILLIE NELSON is heading to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday (13Nov07) to protest the inhumane slaughtering of horses. The singer will be joined by celebrities including actress Bo Derek at Capitol Hill, where they'll show their support for the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. In an online letter to his fans, Nelson writes: "Our horses need your help! Join my family, Bo Derek, the Barbi Twins and a host of others in the fight to save our horses. "Horses are living legends of American History yet we continue to slaughter over 100,000 horses annually. Thanks to Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), U.S. slaughterhouses were closed down. "However, the cruel business of slaughter continues by crowding horses in trailers for over 700 miles to Mexico and Canada, without food or water. These plants in Mexico are killing the horses savagely, by multiple stabbings until they drop to their knees in order to slit their throats, causing them to suffer slow painful deaths. "Once again, it's time to flood the phone lines and emails of our legislatures. Ask them to co-sponsor and demand a vote on the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act."

As Willie and millions of others speak out to put an end to horse slaughter, I hope the Congress will finally listen and put an end to this atrocity. But they must do it quickly; as each day passes without our horses getting the legal protection they deserve, more and more die horrific deaths. Please call, write, email and fax your legislators and urge them to support S311/HR503. We need to get this done!

GOD BLESS WILLIE!! A true American, he stood up for the farmers, and see what they did to him, but he beat them by not letting them take him down. And now we have him to help with this great cause, the passage of HR503, and S311, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. He and many others now know the truth, they're breeding them for slaughter, stealing them, buying them under false pretenses, and out bidding the average family looking for a nice horse. The TB world and the AQH world, and the PMU world are the largest contributers to this dirty business. 59 head of mostly Belgian yearlings, and others up to a 6 year old Percheron where stuffed on top of each other in a double decker cattle truck, being sent to slaughter when the driver, (running illegally), ran a stop light and hit a motorist, turning the trailer on it's side, door side down, it took a small army of humans, firemen, law enforcement, rescues, veterinarians, and volunteers to cut the roof off the truck and spend five hours dragging colts and full grown draft horses from the death trap, 17 of them have died, the rest are being cared for by a rescue, and will be adopted out. The state of IL immediately drafted a bill banning double decker trucks from hauling horses in their state. The driver was over-weight and knew it, and running a night after scales were closed, the owner knew it, even had two more dd trucks loaded with horses that made it through to Canada for slaughter, but do you think the owner and driver will get in trouble, hell no!, it's ok? to almost kill someone and not get into trouble? they're special people?? Go Willie and All the other dedicated people fighting to bring HR503/S311 to the floor for a vote.
